OLDE JAMAICA TOURS organizes tours and transportation packages designed for conferences, family reunions, group-outings, cruise passengers from Kingston/Port Royal, individuals and include- airport transfers and the transportation of guests. Our packages contain adventure, sightseeing and sports tours, however, we do specialize in heritage/cultural tours, especially tours to some of our historical churches. In May 1494, Christopher Columbus arrived in Jamaica and it is said that the first Roman Catholic Mass was celebrated here in that year.
The English wrested Jamaica from the Spanish and promptly instituted the Church of England. Over the years other religions (including the Jews) from Europe and North America came to the island rightly giving Jamaica its reputation for having the largest number of churches per square mile! All these denominations brought with them different rituals and forms of worship, so Jamaica now has a truly abundant collection of wonderful old churches, and worship centres. Touring the various church buildings and viewing the architecture and monuments is an interesting and inspiring experience and makes for excellent sightseeing.
Our heritage tours must and do include museums which encompass Jamaica’s rich history and tell of our life in earlier times and more about the island and its people: the hybrids and mixture of many races. Of course taking in collections of Jamaica’s vibrant art and sports also forms part of such a tour. Jamaica’s historic Great Houses (or plantation houses) are an absolute must see; each one with its own fascinating story to tell. All of the foregoing, we believe, makes for excellent adventure tours to suit our visitors.
Kingston and St. Andrew (the corporate area) has Jamaica’s largest collection of historical sites, museums and monuments within a confined geographical space so that our tourists can visit many and varied places of interest within a short period of time. Tours can be arranged for half or full days to facilitate conference participants, cruise ship passengers, their families/friends and just about everyone else. We would like to make clear, however, that our tours are not just restricted to the sites already mentioned but can easily be customized to include other major attractions based upon our clients’ particular requirements and preferences.
